Vocalist, Keyboards

Abby Schaffer

Abby is a lifelong vocalist and occasional pianist, who has led her own jazz band for more than a decade.  Abby has performed at three DC JazzFests, and was a longtime regular at such DC jazz clubs as Twins Jazz and Columbia Station in “the Before Times.” During the pandemic, she developed a solo project accompanying herself on piano while singing a selection of “jazzified” pop tunes, from the Beatles to Beyoncé. Abby grew up performing musical theatre and choral music, honed her ear for harmonies in her college a cappella group – and with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Choir, recorded an original r&b demo with several New Orleans greats, including members of the esteemed Neville family, and released a CD of original tunes and favorite jazz numbers entitled “Play Along,” in 2016 (available on iTunes.)

Abby is also an Occupational Therapist at Holy Cross Hospital. Abby loves to engage with people, and is delighted to bring you a selection of songs from throughout the ages, from Jazz to Motown.

Ensemble

Abigail’s Garden

This lovely group of women performs an engaging set of songs, from celtic, to gypsy, waltzes and originals that express beauty and whimsy. Each seasoned musician adds a unique touch to the varied selections, whether it’s a small original riff or a beautiful blend of harmonies. From clubs to festivals to concerts, this band brings an excitement that captivates their audiences.

Abigail’s Garden includes cello, ukulele, fiddle, guitar, keys and vocals. Lively songs like “Tell Me Ma” and “Whisky in the Jar” contrast with beautiful harmonies and lilting voices in songs like “Danny Boy”, “The Parting Glass” and “Caledonia”. These contrast well with lively instrumentals like the Irish tunes “John Murphy and Dennis Ryan Polkas” and the Swedish tune “Boda Waltz”. Added to this mix are original songs like Tish’s “Ukulele Blues” and “My Baby”, Renee’s “Tell Me”, and Laurie’s “The Monk’s March”. There are many more songs from the likes of Dougie MacLean, Eva Cassidy — even Dropkick Murphys and Jethro Tull!

His solo performances often include a cowboy song or two, some New Orleans jazz, old country songs, and even his own compositions. His audience-focused performances are always warm and engaging.
